useful information

about lifting gear

Slings are chains, lifting straps, round slings and ropes made of steel wire or fiber material. They connect the load directly to the lifting gear (e.g. a crane). Ropes are suitable for loads that have oily, smooth or slippery surfaces. Hook ropes serve as a connection between a crane hook and the attachment eye of the load. A chain is always used when the material is hot, when it comes to loads that have no slippery surfaces, but also to lift sharp-edged profiles and beams. Here, too, the hook chain is used to connect the eyelet of the load and the hoist. A combination of chain and rope is also possible. This type of sling is often used for the transport of profile steel. Sling gear must be checked by a qualified person before being used for the first time.

Flat belts and round slings are suitable for loads with a sensitive and very slippery surface. These are, for example, rollers, shafts and loads with a painted surface. Other lifting slings are natural or synthetic fiber ropes. They are used for loads that have a very sensitive surface or for loads that are very light or have a pressure-sensitive surface. Conversely, there are also loads for which individual lifting accessories are not suitable. Ropes cannot be used for sharp-edged and hot materials. Chains cannot be used if loads have oily or slippery surfaces. Flat belts and round slings, on the other hand, are not suitable for hot and sharp-edged loads. The fiber rope is one of the oldest slings. One of the most frequently used slings is the wire rope. Lifting straps are created by sewing belt straps predominantly from polyester fibers. They have a high load-bearing capacity and conform to the shape of the load. Round slings, on the other hand, are made from a scrim in a tube and are therefore very flexible.
